What is DLI Number in Canada?
Each college or university on the DLI Canada list is granted a unique DLI number. It is provided to post-secondary institutions whenever the provincial or territorial minister of education confirms their designated status with IRCC. - If your DLI is located in a province or territory, you’ll be able to see the DLI Canada list for that region when you pick it.

How to Change DLI Number?

Reasons to choose DLI Colleges in Canada
In Canada, each province or territory is responsible for identifying post-secondary institutions that admit international students. The list of Designated Learning Institutions may include colleges, universities, CEGEPs, private career colleges, and vocational and language schools. Some Quebec colleges, on the other hand, are significant exceptions. Even though they have been designated by the provincial administration, they lack a DLI number.

Non DLI Schools
In order to accept international students, a school must be designated by its provincial or territorial authority as a designated learning institution (DLI).
It is illegal to apply for a study permit for a non-DLI school. As long as your study permission is valid, you can stay at the institution until it loses its DLI status. Otherwise, you have the option of transferring to a different DLI.
Changing Schools
There is no need to apply for a new study permit if an international student changes universities within the same academic level, but they must notify IRCC of their new location. Since non-DLI institutions are not allowed to accept international students, the student must verify that the new school is a designated learning institution (DLI).

Changing Programs
If an international student wishes to change programmes at the same designated learning institution (DLI), there is no need to notify IRCC or change their study visa. A few exceptions do exist, however:
It is imperative that IRCC be informed of any changes in the foreign national’s study permit conditions if these conditions may be affected by the change in programmes.
Foreign nationals must request for an extension to their study permit if they change programmes that are longer than the validity of their current study permit.
Changing Level of Study
A new study permit or notification to IRCC of changes may be required for a foreign national, depending on the degree of study. When a student progresses from high school to college, the following are the most prevalent changes:
- A new study permit is not required if a student moves from primary school to secondary school. Transferring from one school to another necessitates that the student get in touch with IRCC to have their new school’s information updated.
- For primary and secondary school, a study permit is not required for minors who are travelling with an adult who has a valid employment or study permit.
- It is necessary to obtain another study permission from IRCC while moving from secondary to post-secondary level of educational training.

Changing a DLI: Step by Step

- An account on a website. Those who applied for a study permit by mail must create an online account and link it to their mail-in documents in order to complete the process.
- The number on your student ID card. It’s at the top right of the student visa. Its initial consonant is a ‘S.’
- That unique DLI number assigned to you by your new school. If you’re unsure, check out this list of Canadian DLI numbers to see if it’s there.
- This is your new student ID. This information can be found on the letter of admission from your new school.
- Start of the new school year.
Having gathered all the required paperwork, you’re now ready to start the application process. You can adjust your DLI by following these steps:
- The first step is to log in to your account online.
- Select Transfer from DLI number under Designated Learning Institution Student Transfer.
- After that, you must enter your permit application number and click Find My Permit.
- Provide additional information regarding your initial application for a study permit.
- Your new DLI number, your new Student ID number, and the date on which you will begin classes at your new school should all be entered here. Press the Send money button.
- This is the final step in your transfer process. Click the Confirm Transfer button to confirm your data transfer.
Once the transfer is complete, you will receive a confirmation email. Your intention to change DLIs has been communicated to the Canadian government.
